Why we don’t focus on the health effects of radon…

“Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer behind smoking!”

“Radon kills over 20,000 people per year by way of lung cancer!”

“If you smoke and are exposed to more than 4.0 pCi/L of radon, you’re 7 times more likely to get lung cancer than if you only smoke!”

radon mitigators

The list goes on and on.  Radon is a radioactive gas.  By nature, radioactive particles are harmful to the human body. This is why x-ray technicians hide in the other room and cover your body in a lead blanket when performing tests.  This is why nuclear bombs cause so much collateral damage.  Radioactive material can kill you.  Don’t take our word for it, go to the source of the information!  Everyone from the EPA to the WHO to the American Medical Association agrees…so we’re not here to convince you.

And that’s precisely our mindset : Why try to scare people about radon when the data is easily accessible?  Have we studied for hours during licensing about the sub-atomic physics related to radon? Yes!  Are we scientists? Nope!  We aren’t scientists, and we don’t pretend to be experts on the health effects of radon exposure.  What we ARE experts in, however, is radon mitigation!

If you’re reading this post, you’re likely in one of two camps. A) You’re involved in a real-estate transaction and are considering a radon test OR trying to determine how to solve a radon problem B) You’re just curious about radon and are wondering if you should have your home tested.  For everyone in camp “B”, we suggest you start at the EPA’s website about radon and make your own decision.
